Tecnifibre 305 1.2mm Squash Breakages
Feb 19th, 2009, 10:25am

I have had several instances over the past 6 months where this string seems to have broken prematurely. It always follows the same pattern in that the break is always at the head and the break is absolutely clean - almost like it has been sliced with a blade.

Can I ask if any other squash racquet stringers have had any instances of this.

Thanks

Martin

This is a serious problem for TF. They say that DuPont messed up with the fibres and now TF are going to bin all the present TF305 and by March send out new supplies. These will be in a darker green and new style packaging. They will also have new machines that will spew out the new 305 string 24hrs non-stop.
Fromuth Tennis are already on the case and willing to replace reels. TF in the UK want a sample of the string sent back to the supplier and then on to France for testing. They are asking for the entire stringbed to be sent back!
TF state that the premature breakages are outside of their 1% allowance and so are keen to redeem the good name of this popular squash string.
I do lots of squash tournaments, just back from the UK Nationals and this breakage problem is widespread. I suppose many stringers not belonging to an association will not know there is a problem - would TF actually tell them? - so the breakages will be replaced at no cost, again and again. I spoke to several stringers at the Nationals who had been through about 5 or 6 freebies before they found out!
On the positive side, these stringers have now started looking at other alternatives, instead of just going down the same road each time with a "safe" brand. Never a better time for a string company to launch a similar polyurethane coated/fusion multi. I have just completed a series of tests on a similar string for one big company. It performed well and lasted a bit longer, wrong colour and a little too stiff, but on the right track, Liam
